The Hobbit starred Bilbo, not Frodo
I'm afraid that Ted is right, the character Frodo never appeared in Tolkien literature until the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The Hobbit stared Bilbo! Looks like your going to have to restart your counter again...
That should be "Starred", not "Stared"!

Bilbo was just a nickname, I think. The idea for the story came to Tolkien after hearing about a playground fight between young Frodo and his arch-enemy Steve Meagle (S.Meagle) who also appeared in the story as Gollum. Fascinating stuff!
Dan referred to the "opus" of the Hobbit, which is the body of work as a whole, "Lord of the Rings" inclusive. And yes, it does contain the name of his poor retarded son Frodo.
