Yeah, they have opposite charges!
and that's the reason nobody has successfully transformed ice into glass
Interestingly, each proton is responsible for exactly an order-of-magnitude increase in melting point:
+0 protons (water ice) = 32°F,
+1 proton (acetate) = 320°F
+2 protons (glass) = 3,200°F
