No it wouldn't. Hydrocarbons, although a good source of energy, is not a good source of nourishment. Besides, it IS poisonous and ALWAYS WILL BE.
Ah yes, very good point. It sure is good to see you have your thinking cap on.
But you see, you've stumbled upon the very reason that Styrofoam is poisonous: it contains harmful hydrocarbons!
Using your logic :
If it weren't so light, styrofoam would make great paperweights.
If it weren't so hard to see through , styrofoam would make great windows.

Yes, hydrocarbon has molecular equivalence to carbohydrate - the only problem is that in styrofoam the carbon is in front. The reduction procedure j.roberts mentions will invert the molecule while retaining it's chiral handedness and demonstrate the point dan serena was trying to make. In fact, many kinds of "puffed" breakfast cereals are made in exactly this manner.
